WHO

Commercial lavender growers … members or friends of the GLLG… for the experienced grower and the start-up… all are welcome. The Great Lakes Lavender Growers annual meeting regularly welcomes members from Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Pennsylvania.

WHAT

We’re offering a full day of scientific presentations, networking, sharing of ideas on an array of topics related to commercial lavender farming. Our theme this year is “Meeting the Marketing Challenge”. This will give us ample opportunity to hone our marketing skills and get inspired, recharged and connected. Share your creativity.

KEYNOTE

Author, Marie Gale of Seattle, Washington will be our keynote speaker this year. Marie has amassed nearly 20 years in the handcrafted soap and cosmetic industry. During this time, she has had her own soap and cosmetic business selling her products retail, wholesale and private label; served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetic Guild and has written three books. Her pre-eminent book, Soap and Cosmetic Labeling, has become an indispensable mainstay for soap and cosmetic handcrafters who want to comply with U.S. labeling requirements. Marie will speak to us on “Labeling Your Value-Added Products the Legal Way”.

WHEN

Saturday, March 2nd. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with coffee and continental breakfast and the program will commence at 9:00 a.m. Come early so you can begin to mingle with other participants. Our programming will end at about 5:30 p.m. Participants who like, are welcome to join the group for an informal dinner and continued lavender discussion.

WHERE

Our gathering will take place in the new Hall of History at the MSU Breslin Student Events Center at 534 Birch Rd (or corner of Kalamazoo and S. Harrison Rd), East Lansing, MI. Marie Gale has amassed nearly 20 years in the handcrafted soap and cosmetic industry. During this time she has had her own soap and cosmetic business selling her products retail, wholesale and private label; served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetic Guild, and has written three books. Her pre-eminent book, Soap and Cosmetic Labeling, has become an indispensable mainstay for soap and cosmetic handcrafters who want to comply with U.S. labeling requirements. In addition to speaking engagements addressing soap and cosmetic labeling, her website (www.mariegale.com) provides a wealth of information about labeling and legislation. Marie lives in Washington near Seattle with her husband, Jere, their Doberman, Duke, and their orange-tabby cat, George. She works remotely as the Webmaster for the HSCG. In her spare time, Marie is researching her family tree.

Parking is free of charge as it is Spring Break here on MSU’s campus. To park at the Breslin Center, please use lot 63 East or West. Once parked, enter into the Gilbert Pavilion section of the Breslin Center and follow our signs to the meeting room on the Mezzanine level.

From Capital City Airport: Turn right (west) onto Grand River Avenue to Waverly Road and turn left (south). Follow Waverly to I-496 East. Follow I-496 East to Trowbridge Road exit. From the South (Jackson): Take US 127 North to Trowbridge Road exit. Turn left (north) at first traffic light, which is Harrison Avenue. Breslin Center is approximately one mile north on the right.
